There are certain things in life that stand out more than others. An ease so natural there is no calculated choice. On a systematic ladder of adornment our “favorites” pretty much get perching rights at the highest peak. A favorite movie, band, food, job or even person! So why are we drawn to a favorite.. ANYTHING? Favorites are revisited over and over and over. What purpose does it serve? Although it seems a bit mysterious and unexplainable, there has to be something very much explainable about choosing favorites.
Favorites are subjective perspectives untouchable to the world around them.
Unwavering and confidently tall, favorites do not buckle amidst life’s battlefield. Imagine the sense of self we all could project if equal to the security and tranquility of our favorite things. Interestingly, we tolerate society’s opinion of our favorite things quite well, compared to a direct opinion someone places upon our character. Disagreeing with our favorite things seems less malicious and substantially less personal than confronting our points of view. Our consciousness feels bonded to something very special yet unthreatened by all predatory surroundings.
The organic connection quietly unfolds.
A slow unexpected rise, our favorites casually build a following. Leisurely we find ourselves reaching for them, needing them and being inspired by our favorite things. An unawareness by those involved that ties have been tied and bridges have been built. How this unfolding occurs seems to be peculiar. There isn’t a formula fusing together these complexities. Our favorites are not hunted nor forced. We don’t research things to see if they meet our terms and conditions. It just simply happens, but how?
We are drawn to our favorite things, because of a positive connection. Within that positivity lies a deep meaning with even deeper reasonings. The connection brings forth a sort of unsolved joy. The romance of it all follows the idea... a passionate chase which never really has to be solved. Within a finite world our favorite things reinforce the mentality of infinite joy. Our current lives are very much structured in accordance with time. Every part of the day seems to be scheduled. Even as you are listening to someone talk your body is judging their timing so you know when to respond. Time spent with our favorite things allow us to lose track of when the beginning began and when the ending will end. Our previous moments and our future moments keep us moving toward others. Where as our favorite things keep us moving only toward ourselves.
A permission to feel.

Our favorites reach far beyond trust, hope and comfort. We can find trust, hope and comfort in many things around us. They dig through to a deeper meaning than just the obvious. It’s a fulfillment we are unaware needs to be filled. Feelings we didn’t know we had. Our favorite things bring about the emotions that are difficult to identify or define. That favorite movie, song or car is allowing us to feel, want or be close to something foreign. Time spent in these moments may be the only time these new feelings are felt. Quietly linking us with convictions that are tucked far far away. Crammed within our favorites are one-on-one internal dialogs that could only satisfy one's personal deficiencies. We listen, watch and feel how our mind jockeys to uncover the classified person inside of us. Hidden not only to everyone around you, but also yourself! Private thoughts only resolved with permission by your favorites to feel these recurring emotions. After the tenth time of watching that movie, there lies a reassurance of who you are.
It's charismatic charm lures us on a journey.
It’s the enchanting road that keeps us returning to our favorite things. There is a confidence in knowing the road really well. There is a mystery in not knowing where the road will take us. A fun uplifting moment can also be dark and heavy. Like a hand reaching straight in and pulling the monotony out of the inside of our chest. We crave the shake up. We savor the melodrama. We taste the passion. Heavy air inhaled turns to weight-less exhales of ourselves.
Just as you and your dog love walks so does your mind. A moment enjoying your favorite thing is like taking your mind for a walk around the block! An opportunity to forget about time and experience the freedom to roam. Life is too short to now set forth and analyze all of your favorite things. They applause the privacy. They worship the freedom. Every aspect of your life wasn’t meant to be understood. Favorites contain no labels, no judgement and no solutions. Falling out of time allows you to fall in love with yourself. You may find YOU are your most favorite thing.
