Art, n. - The conscious use of skill and creativity to transmit emotion.

Somewhere between our core and the skin that keeps the rest of the world at bay, lies a deep vast ocean of creativity. Rising up in sporadic bubbles, the essence of who we are surfaces. Although difficult at times to activate, it’s within us. Unique and always seemingly “in progress”, the evolution of our inner art keeps turning. A swirling array of dots waiting to be connected. In due course there is a path to our madness. For now, each day we wake up to the task of sorting out who precisely we are.

The Personal Side of Art

When we no longer can speak loud enough or reach out far enough, art becomes the extension to our existence. A vulnerability with a purpose. Will our own truths be accepted? Am I good enough? We tend to be our own worst critic. Art generates an emotional nakedness. It’s the kind of full-disclosure that plays on our strengths as well as our weaknesses. It doesn’t get any deeper than this. Diving into the murkiest of waters. The unedited truth sitting on the floor of one’s mind. Into the darkness we must go to find what makes us shine.

The Art of Listening

Hearing yourself can be more difficult than hearing someone else. With all the voices we hear in our head it can be difficult to determine what exactly is being said. How do we hear our own truths? It all begins with listening. Art begins by listening to your own story instead of creating the story you feel should be told. Confidence swings open a door only the artist can intentionally close. Oblige yourself to be proud of the art you have created no matter how different your art may seem. Make a commitment to explore the feelings that go beyond your physical self.

Art Evokes a Reaction

To create art is to create attention. Good or bad, I believe a reaction gives the artist the missing pieces to their big life formula. The opinions of others help the artist calculate the answers to their own distinctiveness. The act of performing will result in feedback. Everyone at some point has evaluated their own uniqueness. I think we all want to know what exactly makes us different from everyone else on this big planet. What makes you known for being you? It’s very important for each of us to understand our own meaning. The accolades or rejection directed toward one’s art stirs an energy in us. An energy that feeds our differences and makes what is different about us stronger. Eventually reflecting clarification to one of the most important questions we ask ourselves each day. Who am I?

Your Art Will Invest In You

Be truthful with your art and it will be truthful to you. It doesn’t matter if your art is dark, simple, splashy, political, beautiful or gaudy. All you can do is be honest and the rest will unfold naturally. Art is an inherent gift. To overlook art means you are tossing aside the joy of wonderment. A journey into the deepest mysteries of what excites your heart and retains playfulness in your mind. This exhilaration is how your complexities become way more meaningful. Become completely lost in the unknown wonder of who you are while creating generational memories. Art is waiting on your bigger picture. Be the person you were MEANT to be.

ART

Unscripted love

Take my heart

Hear this poem

As I fall apart

Find the right words

To set me free

Make meaning out of hope

That was never meant to be

Say the words

That I feel inside

Organize the potential

I’m trying to find

Reach down

Into the center of my heart

Write to me exactly

What sets me apart

Thank you very much! I so appreciate you!
